When Expert Cabinetry Painting Becomes Functional Art

At the heart of the project, the kitchen cabinetry was treated as both a functional feature and a design statement. McFarland says, “This particular set of cabinets was a tremendous amount of time and prep and filling and really getting a super smooth finish on them. That really shows with the reflection of the light of it.”

Classic Papering & Painting Inc. utilizes a combination of shop-based and on-site spraying, ensuring every door, drawer, and box achieves a consistent, flawless finish. “We remove all the cabinet doors when we come into a jobsite, all the drawer fronts—they’re all taken to our shop. Everything then is sprayed in our shop, and the actual boxes are sprayed on site,” McFarland explains.

Glass-front cabinets receive special attention, with interiors painted to match or contrast the exterior. “Then we will tape off all the other frames and we’ll do the same sprayed finish that you would have in our shop space as well. That way you’re going to get a consistent, clean look over all the cabinetry that’s in the space, and it’s very pristine and very clean. Sharp lines that we did on everything.”

The Secret to Cabinetry Longevity in Upper Arlington Homes

Durable cabinetry begins with choosing the right primer and preparation method. McFarland highlights, “So with your cabinets, are they cabinets that are stained? Do they have existing paint that you are intending to paint over? Because there are different primers that you want to use with that particular system.”

Stained wood receives a shellac-based primer, while raw wood is treated differently to ensure multiple layers of durability. “That gives you a very durable product over the lifetime of the cabinet,” he notes. Proper prep, sanding, and cleaning are key. “If it’s a painting company that may be newer…you’re going to get an inferior job that’s not going to last for the duration of the cabinet.”

When Staining Cabinets Elevates Every Detail

The stained china cabinet top in this project received specialized attention for a smooth, durable finish. McFarland explains: “Prior to staining the product, we did a very thorough sanding on this just to get any scrape marks or scratches that might be in the finish. Once we apply the stain, we allow that to dry for eight hours. Then we come in the next day and we put our first coat of oil base finish on it.”

The oil-based finish, similar to hardwood floors, creates a surface that resists water damage and everyday wear. “If you were able to feel this, you’d understand how smooth the surface is. There’s just very, very durable finish on here that they can set items that have water on it. It’s not going to damage the finish whatsoever.”

When Sunroom Windows Become a Canvas for Precision

The painted sunroom is a showcase of height, scale, and fine detail. “We’re standing in front of an elaborate set of windows. As you can see, the height and width—it pretty much takes up this entire wall. We had to bring in scaffolding just due to the difficulty of setting up ladders against this,” says McFarland.

Gray accents between window sashes highlight the craftsmanship of Classic Papering & Painting Inc., proving that meticulous painting can elevate even the largest features of a home. “The detail is very high end. It took a lot of time for us to do this, and it really had to bring in some great craftsmen to take care of that.”

When Bathrooms Transform Into Custom Masterpieces

Every bathroom in the home features painted cabinetry, durable finishes, and wallpaper accents. McFarland emphasizes the custom details that elevate the spaces: “So in this particular bathroom, we covered the switch plates and the cover plates with wallpaper. That really gives it a custom job, a custom look. It makes the room just completely finished.”

The pool bath demonstrates innovation in painting techniques. Instead of wallpaper, the team executed a striped finish with precision taping: “This is not a wall covering. This is actually a striped finish that we taped off and had painted…we take the time to make the detail of the switch plates match up to the stripes themselves.” The result is a durable, high-end finish perfect for active spaces.
