Interiors in Upper Arlington, Grandview, Dublin, Powell and New Albany are embracing rich, layered color palettes that combine sophistication, texture, and subtle drama. From moody greens to smoky jades, warm clays, and layered neutrals, these trend-forward hues are creating luxurious, aspirational spaces for homeowners who value design, craftsmanship, and lasting impact.

Leading color authorities highlight these directions:

Trend-watchers caution against overusing color drenching, which can overwhelm a space (Martha Stewart; Zillow 2026 Trends).

In this context, Classic Papering & Painting Inc., led by CEO John McFarland, shows how trend-forward colors meet high-end craftsmanship, delivering interiors that are resilient, sophisticated, and aspirational.

Dark Green Den: Layered Luxury in an Upper Arlington Home

The den embodies 2026’s top color trends with moody green walls, warm tans, crisp whites, and wallpaper accents, achieving a layered and luxurious effect.

“This room has a lot of detail and different features in it that really make a huge difference with it. One, when you look at it, you have three different colors plus wallpaper. It starts out with these beautiful cabinets and the beautiful brass that they have on it, and the absolutely gorgeous finish that they put on with the color,” McFarland explains.

Crown molding, dentil trim, and built-ins demonstrate the precision required to execute high-contrast, layered color schemes.

“This really takes a person that has very good skill level to be able to take care of this and paint it correctly without having runs and drips. When you look at this white against the green, obviously that’s a very dark color against a very light color. And they’re very crisp, clean lines.”

Master Bedroom Elegance: Subtle Stripes and Refined Layering

In the master bedroom, a tone-on-tone painted stripe adds depth and dimension, aligning with 2026’s trend toward subtle layering instead of color saturation.

“All the walls were painted, and then we designed out the room that we have a clear coat that we put over for a design look for a stripe. It gives you a nice, really beautiful, subtle look to it. But when you really look down, it’s got a powerful feel to it,” McFarland notes.

This technique pairs beautifully with Benjamin Moore’s Silhouette AF-655, combining trend-forward color with timeless, high-end design.

Living and Transitional Spaces: Texture, Depth, and Layered Paint

Natural wood tones, elegant traditional accents, and layered paint finishes create warmth and sophistication. Highlights include:

  • Deep greens and rich clay tones for focal walls and built-ins.

  • Warm tans and off-whites complementing wood beams and flooring.

  • Textured parchment-paper walls and whitewashed brick providing subtle depth.

“This is parchment paper, that you hang similar to wallpaper, but they’re torn-up pieces that you overlap. So you really kind of model and make your own design. This piece of art really just makes this paper jump out, and it’s just got a fantastic backdrop to it,” McFarland explains.

These spaces highlight the importance of craftsmanship in high-end interiors where homeowners expect perfect lines, precise edges, and durable finishes.

2026 Color Trends to Watch in Prestigious Columbus-Area Homes

Across these homes and trend forecasts, the key insights for 2026 are:

  1. Layered Neutrals Enhance Sophistication – Multiple tones create depth without overwhelming the eye.

  2. Moody Greens and Earthy Hues Dominate – Deep greens, smoky jades, and clay-inspired shades provide elegance and warmth.

  3. Precision Matters for High-Contrast Spaces – Trim, cabinetry, and moldings must be executed flawlessly.

  4. Avoid Full Color Drenching – Saturating every surface risks a heavy, whimsical look (Martha Stewart; Zillow).

  5. Expert Craftsmanship Makes Color Enduring – Proper prep, masking, and layering are essential in high-end interiors.
